Tarea/Homework

Esta semana los estudiantes comienzan a tener tarea. Comenzarán con una hoja de tarea de matemáticas cada día. Por favor haga que su hijo complete la tarea y devuélvalo al día siguiente. Voy a necesitar voluntarios en la mañana, de lunes a jueves. Para preparar las carpetas de tarea.  Generalmente se tarda de 10 a 15 minutos en preparar la carpetas. Los viernes por la mañana, necesitaré un voluntario para preparar las carpetas del viernes. Las carpetas del viernes pueden requerir más tiempo dependiendo del número de anuncios que van a casa. Para las artes del lenguaje español seguiremos revisando el alfabeto. Comenzaré a introducir actividades de centros de artes del lenguaje. Para las matemáticas vamos a estudiar haciendo grupos de 10. El martes los estudiantes tienen una prueba de matemáticas. La Feria de libros en la biblioteca de la escuela continúa hasta el miércoles a las 4:00 P.M.

This week the students start to take have homework. They will start out with one sheet of math homework per day. Please have your child complete the homework and return it the following day. I will need volunteers in the morning, Monday through Thursday to prepare the homework folders. Generally it takes 10 to 15 minutes to prepare the folders. On Friday mornings I will need a volunteer to prepare the Friday folders. Friday folders may require more time depending on the number of announcements going home. For Spanish language arts we will continue to review the alphabet. Also, I will start to introduce language arts center activities.  For math we will study making groups of 10. On Tuesday the students have a math quiz. The book fair at the school library continues till Wednesday at 4:00 P.M. 

La noche de regreso a la escuela

Gracias por las generosas donaciones. Los estudiantes estaban ansiosos por empezar a usar las pizarras blancas, así que empezamos a usarlas para las matemáticas. El lunes vamos a empezar a utilizar los libros de composición, tengo extras para aquellos que no han comprado uno. Para las artes del lenguaje en español vamos a empezar a revisar el alfabeto. También estoy evaluando los niveles de lectura de los estudiantes para agruparlos. Para las matemáticas vamos a seguir utilizando paletas para contar por 2, más tarde en la semana vamos a empezar a usar los contadores numéricos para aprender estrategias de sumar. La educación física comienza esta semana, los estudiantes tendrán educación física todos los miércoles y jueves a las 8:40 A.M. Animo a los niños a tener una botella de agua reutilizable en su escritorio. Sólo pido que la botella no gotea sea resistente a derrames con una válvula de beber. Por favor ponga el nombre de su hijo en la botella. La noche de regreso a la escuela para 1er a 6to grado es el miércoles a partir de las 6:00 P.M. Mi presentación se repetirá a las 6:45 P.M. Además, la noche del miércoles es la primera oportunidad de visitar la Feria del libro en la biblioteca de la escuela. La Feria del libro será desde la noche del miércoles hasta el siguiente miércoles 30 de agosto, de 8:00 A.M. a 4:00 P.M. Todo el mundo es bienvenido para ayudar a ver el eclipse el lunes. Thank you for the generous donations. The students were eager to start using the white boards, so we started using them for math. On Monday we will start to use the composition books, I do have extras for those who have not purchased one. For Spanish language arts we will start to review the alphabet. I’m also assessing the students reading levels in order to group them. For math we will continue to use popsicles to count by 2, later in the week we will start to use number racks to learn addition strategies.  Physical education starts this week, the students will have P.E every Wednesday and Thursday at 8:40 A.M. I encourage the children to have a reusable water bottle on their desk. I just ask that the bottle not leak be spill resistant with a drinking valve.  Please put your child’s name on the bottle. Back to School Night for 1^st to 6^th grade is Wednesday starting at 6:00 P.M. My presentation will be repeated at 6:45 P.M. Also, Wednesday night is the first opportunity to visit the book fair at the school library. The book fair will be from Wednesday night till the following Wednesday August 30, from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Everyone is welcomed to help with eclipse viewing on Monday. Hola, permítame a presentarme, voy a ser el maestro de su hijo. Soy hablante nativo de español originario de Yucatán, México. Yo crecí en los Estados Unidos en el sur de California cerca de Whittier. Asistí a la Universidad de California en Irvine, donde obtuve una licenciatura en psicología. Después de la Universidad, trabajé para el Servicio de Parques Nacionales. Trabajé en varios parques en California y en Maine. Después de 26 años me retiré del Servicio de Parques y obtuve mi credencial de enseñanza de Sonoma State University. Actualmente resido en Pt. Reyes Station donde con mi esposa, quien también trabajo para el Servicio de Parques Nacionales. Tengo un hijo que vive en Brooklyn, Nueva York. En mi tiempo libre me gusta leer, ver los partidos de los Gigantes de San Francisco, caminar los senderos de Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Además me gusta viajar por América Latina, este verano viaje a Nicaragua, Costa Rica y México.

Un cambio principal de kinder es que el recreo/merienda es más tarde por la mañana, a las 10:30. El recreo también es sólo 15 minutos. Por lo tanto es importante que los niños tengan un desayuno bueno. También ya que el almuerzo es más tarde, 12:10 P.M., es importante que los niños traigan un bocado para el recreo. Por favor recuerde a su hijo que coma su bocado antes de jugar durante el receso. Espero ver a cada uno el miércoles por la mañana, los estudiantes salen de la cafetería y puertas escolares abren a las 8:25 P.M. Despedimos los alumnos a las 1:50 P.M. cada miércoles. Hello, allow me to introduce myself, I will be your child's teacher. I am a native Spanish speaker originally from Yucatán, México. I grew up in the United States in Southern California near Whittier. I attended the University of California at Irvine, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. After college I worked for the National Park Service working in several parks in California and in Maine. After 26 years I retired from the Park Service and obtained my teaching credential from Sonoma State University. I currently reside in Pt. Reyes Station with my wife, who also worked 

for the National Park Service. I have a son who lives in Brooklyn, New York. In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching the San Francisco Giants and walking in Pt. Reyes National Seashore. In addition I enjoy traveling in Latin America, This summer I traveled to Nicaragua, Costa Rica and México.

One major change from kindergarten is that recess/snack is later in the morning, 10:30 A.M. Recess is also only 15 minutes. Therefore it is important that the children have a good breakfast. Also since lunch is later, 12:10 P.M., it is important that the children bring a snack for recess. Please remind your child to eat his snack prior to playing during recess.  I look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday morning, students are released from the cafeteria and school gates open at 8:25 A.M. The students are dismissed at 1:50 P.M. on Wednesday.
